About Sherman Oaks

The San Fernando Valley is home to the Los Angeles community of Sherman Oaks, which was established in 1927. Sherman Oaks has a lower population density than some other communities of Los Angeles since a part of the Santa Monica Mountains is located there.

Sherman Oaks was created by Gen. Moses Hazeltine Sherman, a partner of the Los Angeles Suburban Homes Company. The area that would become Sherman Oaks was divided into 1,000 acres (400 ha) by the corporation. Each acre was sold for $780 in 1927. The Los Angeles Pacific Railroad was Sherman’s other significant business endeavor.
